ast week, we came across a great rundown of oilfield leaders in specific product service lines prepared by EnergyPoint Research.
For those new to oilfield services, this list is a great way to get up to speed on who does what. For those that have been around the business for a while, there may be a few surprises here in terms of what operators really think about service providers. There’s also some valuable insight on who you are bidding against or, if you are an operator, who to call first.
We don’t often send subscribers off to third party work, but this piece has some great market intelligence that was missed by some of the bigger trade rags last week.

Our Take
Some of the names on the list are predictable, but some surprised us.
- One such surprise for us was GulfMark beating out Hornbeck in the OSV category.
- Pioneer Energy Services in job quality was also a surprise as the company tends to get less attention in the US onshore market than its larger peers.
- Transocean’s leadership in technology may surprise some, but that actually makes perfect sense to us given what we’ve seen from them lately. Nice to see confirmation from customers of the message management has been delivering.
- And seeing Schlumberger leading in multiple categories confirms what many of us take for granted about the world’s largest OFS company. They are the biggest for a reason…
