As shale turns 20 years old, we are examining and commeroating a variety of historical trends to illuminate big structural changes in shale’s history (including some ongoing themes that continue reshaping the industry).
Our goal with this new series is several-fold:
- provide data-driven context for key multi-cycle themes (including several that are still going),
- foster a deeper understanding of “how we got here” (gotta know where you’ve been to know where you’re going)
- help illustrate the trajectory arc that defines today’s shale markets
- stimulate reflection among those that have been around shale for a while
- educate folks new to the industry on the legacy of innovation they are inheriting
- bring attention to current risks and opportunities being created by ongoing structural changes
- and finally, recognize and celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of the most incredible industry on the planet – Lower 48 unconventional well drilling and completions
