On Friday afternoon we wrote about the beginning of a great sea change in sentiment towards oil and gas – a sea change that will challenge the capital discipline theme in a way that no oil price, no matter how high, ever could.
Shale has gone from pariah to savior in a New York Minute.
Friday night, we got a HUGE datapoint underscoring the narrative swing.
Despite saying it with a sour face, “Mr. EV” himself is now calling for more oil and gas production. This tweet says it all about the sentiment shift… this gives shale producers the green light to ditch capital discipline… a green light impossible to imagine before Putin’s war. What will discipline advocates Pioneer and Devon do now? You can bet they are talking about this behind closed doors right now… But will there be enough sand?
We would note that this is in sharp contrast to Biden’s State of the Union Address last Tuesday, which gave no mention to domestic oil growth as a solution.
